varkey

 5 top 10 2020

Hi! from varkey foundation and alumni

We are very happy and excited about what we experienced at "Rebuild Education Summit", a meeting organized in partnership with UNESCO. Thank you for being part of this global conversation that joined 4,000 teachers from all over the world.

hi dear friends of students

first may i share thanks to  souad belcaid - our wonderful host today and from the inaugural class of top 100 teachers  belcaid million dollar - Recherche Google

second my passion for 35 years since writing a book 2025 report on future of education and sustainability is sharing stories what works depending what community does or does not have

if you have positive stories to share or questions on how does someone else find a first solution to an urgent challenge always like seeing them

or trying to continue a deeper conversation

in 2010s the places i visited most to look at different education solutions

beijing 8 times thanks to graduates in english who helped guide more round this extraordinary city where young people seem to be trying everything- its complicated but because of one child policy whomever is 20 something in chinse family is often 10 times smarter than the whole of the rest of the family but bears that responsibility to
boston 7 times

uae 4 times - geneva twice - there is a close connection on tech futures between these 2 places

i saw such different things and so many extraordinary teachers - for me lifelong teaching studying is all communities have to start up with

my family's hometown glasgow scotland still hopes to host mother of all climate edu events cop26 nov 2021- or at least do zoom homeworks on riad to wherever first great human event is hosted

thank you for inspirations today

Most important subjects - landuages, amth, general knowledge, EVS

In Dehradun, India we would have to do staggered timings for different classes, fewer children per class, sanitization after each class gives over
I am from Aasraa Trust , an NGO that educates street and slum children and we run 6 government schools for the Education Department of our State
Currently we have divided the entire city into clusters, have distributed smartphones which are used by 6 children per cluster, phones are sanitized by responsible slum members and then the next lot of children study via phones
The silver lining to the pandemic is this - children from slums on Google Meet and using apps more affluent children using all over
Teachers have been agile and adroit in their ability to unlearn and relearn
we have a 180 teachers at Aasraa Trust

From Fidelis Is to Everyone:  07:36 AM
Good insight
From Neelu Khanna to Everyone:  07:53 AM
From Neelu Khanna to Everyone:  08:11 AM
We use Khan Academy app, Pratham app which has curriculum from K - 12
Yes, we do have content on radio and television
In Dehradun, India we would have to do staggered timings for different classes, fewer children per class, sanitization after each class gives over
Most important subjects - landuages, amth, general knowledge, EVS
typo errors!! Math, languages
Education should test skills, abilities not just rote learning

Ashesi Community Response to COVID-19

  • Ashesi Newsletter
    September/October 2020
    Welcoming Ashesi's Class of 2024
The Ashesi community has officially welcomed the first cohort of students in the Class of 2024. For the first time in the university's history, the academic year has begun virtually. Later this year, we will enroll the second cohort of the Class. Watch the full welcome video from university and student leadership.
    From Berkeley to Berekuso
Twenty years ago, Patrick Awuah was a graduate student at U.C. Berkeley’s Haas School of Business. While at Haas, Patrick built the foundation for Ashesi University and its growing cadre of ethical and entrepreneurial alumni. On October 8th, join Patrick and former Haas Dean, Rich Lyons, to explore Ashesi’s roots at U.C. Berkeley, and the immeasurable role that university culture plays in preparing students for impact in the world at large. To RSVP, click here.
Susan Dacosta ’20 recounts her journey from the Gambia to Ashesi
When Susan DaCosta completed her undergraduate program at Ashesi this year, she accomplished what had barely been a dream years ago. The last of her parent’s six children, from a remote town in the Gambia, financial constraints had made college seem unlikely. However, having been a standout student, Susan was encouraged by her counselors and parents to consider applying to universities nonetheless, with hopes that she could receive a generous scholarship offer. They were right. Read story.
Alum’s WhatsApp banking platform promotes inclusivity
When alum Dennis Asamoah '12 started Nokwary Technologies, his goal was to use Artificial Intelligence to build solutions and products that are both inclusive and convenient. In creating a blueprint for this approach, his startup designed a WhatsApp-based banking service that allows platform users to make money transactions through basic actions such as voice commands and texts.
President Patrick Awuah on Strengthening Ashesi University in a Time of Crisis
In a new interview with the IFC, President Patrick Awuah shares the pandemic-related challenges faced by Africa’s educational institutions and details how Ashesi aims to integrate students’ access to technology into its business model. Read story.
After their first visit to Ashesi’s campus, Sarah and Kwame Akuffo were convinced they had found the ideal university for their kids. “The environment was so serene, and I was amazed that there is an institution of this caliber in Ghana,” confessed Sarah, whose son and daughter eventually became students at Ashesi. “From that moment, we started working towards Ashesi; putting money away, and helping our kids prepare both socially and academically.” Read story.
Ashesi's Growth is Powered by You:
Rosalind Reaves is an American educator on a lifetime mission: helping the world one student at a time. After being introduced to Ashesi by a friend, she was inspired to support scholarships. "It's about paying it forward, because Africa has given so much to the world and to me personally. It's also about being part of a long and proud tradition of African American investment in Africa." Read story.
    TWEETS & POSTS
"I was inspired to apply to Ashesi mainly because it stood out as a place to rediscover myself," says first-year student Frimpomaa, who joined other colleagues in her class for their matriculation ceremony this afternoon.
“Ashesi for me is a place to shift into a more practical space. Taking a gap year made me realise this even more. I wanted a college that focuses on practical learning, and that was my motivation to apply to Ashesi," said Aaron from St. Augustines College.
Exciting to hear Ghana’s Deputy Minister of Education highlight Ashesi’s career preparation as a higher eduction model. Through the @Edu_Collaborate, and thanks to partners like @MastercardFdn, we hope to work with other universities to increase graduate success across Africa.
This week, we handed over a site on campus for construction to start on a new set of student dorms at Ashesi. The project will be one of our largest yet, and will enable us provide on-campus residential experiences to more students.
